Aggression against Gaza: Algeria hopes that all parties respect the SC resolution

Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, said Monday that Algeria hoped to see all parties respect the resolution adopted by the Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that it was the duty of the UN body to guarantee the implementation of its resolutions.

In a speech delivered after the vote on the text, Ambassador Amar Bendjama expressed his thanks to all members of the Security Council for their flexibility and their constructive work during the negotiations, recalling that after the vote on his draft resolution last February, Algeria committed to seizing the Security Council again and to sparing no effort to ensure that the latter assumes its responsibilities.

“Here she is back today, accompanied by all the elected countries, carrying a clear message to the Palestinian people: the international community, in all its components, feels your suffering and has not abandoned you,” he said. .

The permanent representative of Algeria affirmed that the adoption of today's resolution "is only the beginning of the path towards realizing the aspirations of the Palestinian people", adding that "Algeria hopes to see all parties to respect this resolution so that bloodshed and suffering cease immediately and without conditions.

And to emphasize that it was the duty of the Security Council to guarantee the implementation of its resolutions.

Ambassador Bendjama also assured that Algeria, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will return again to the Security Council to continue its efforts so that the State of Palestine accedes to the its rightful place as a full and sovereign member of the United Nations.

At the initiative of Algeria, supported by the other elected members, the United Nations Security Council adopted, on Monday, by a total of fourteen votes in favor, a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan.

This follows the proposal, by the elected members of the Council (Group of Ten), of a new draft resolution after the failure of the American proposal last Friday. Algeria has held intense negotiations over the past two days, during which it drafted a succinct proposal addressing the most complex elements, including an immediate ceasefire leading to a permanent ceasefire, the release of all detainees and guaranteeing the delivery of humanitarian aid and medical needs.

The resolution emphasizes the urgent need to expand the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians and strengthen their protection throughout the Gaza Strip, and reiterates its demands for the lifting of all obstacles to the provision of large-scale humanitarian assistance, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
