Entry visa to Algeria
Who can apply for visa at the Embassy of Algeria in Pretoria?
You can apply for visa at the Embassy of Algeria in Pretoria if you are:
- Citizen of South Africa, Botswana or Lesotho;
- Permanent or temporary foreigner resident, living in South Africa, Botswana or Lesotho (please enclose copy of the stay permit to your visa application);
Foreigners who are visiting South Africa, Botswana or Lesotho as tourists must apply for the entry visa to Algeria in their respective countries of origin or of residence.
Notes:
- The Applicant shall submit his application in person at the Embassy. However, he can designate, through a proxy, a representative by which the applicant authorizes him/her to apply on his/her behalf. He can also submit his application through a visa services office. In the two last cases, the Embassy will not be responsible, in any way, of any LOSS or DELAY caused;
- Incomplete applications will not be processed. Please read carefully the instructions in the types of visa before you submit your application;
- Date of issuance is the first day of validity. We urge applicants to apply within a period that doesn’t exceed thirty (30) days of their travel date;
- Some nationals may need to submit more documents (such as proof of travel insurance). Please contact the Embassy (the Consular section: Email address: visaapplication.algemb@gmail.com) for more information;
- Foreigners transiting through the International Airport Houari Boumediene of Algiers (Algeria) need to apply for a transit visa.

- The visa for the South African passport holders is GRATIS.

II. TYPES OF VISA
- Diplomatic or Official Visa: is issued to Diplomats or Government’s officials holders of a diplomatic or official passport.
The applicant must provide the following documents:
- A Diplomatic note stating the applicant’s position and the purpose of the visit;
- Invitation letter from Algerian authorities or the organizer side of the diplomatic event (conference, seminar, multilateral meeting, etc.);
- Diplomatic or official passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- A confirmed copy of a round trip flight ticket;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Media visa: is issued to representative of foreign mediator journalist.
The following documents must be provided:
- Letter of employment stating the position of the applicant and purpose of the visit;
- A copy of the professional card;
- When applicable, the Algerian partner invitation letter;
- A detailed list of filming and recording equipment;
- The program of the visit and the list of persons to be interviewed and filming locations;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- A confirmed copy of a round trip flight ticket;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Business visa: is issued to businessman and high level representative of foreign companies who intend to visit Algeria for business purpose (attend business meeting, conclude contracts, etc.).
The following documents must be provided:
- Employer letter providing a brief presentation of the company and stating job title or position of the applicant and purpose of the visit. The company should assume financial responsibility of expenses incurred during the trip;
- Algerian partner or company local branch invitation letter;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- A confirmed copy of a round trip flight ticket;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
VERY IMPORTANT: Holders of business visa are NOT allowed to work and business visa cannot replace work visa.
- Work visa: is issued to foreign worker or employee of a foreign company assigned to work in Algeria for a period more than 90 days.
The following documents must be provided:
- Work permit issued by the Algerian authority in charge of employment
- Copy of employment contract;
- Employer letter stating the applicant job title or position and purpose of the visit and in which the employer pledges to cover all living expenses and to repatriate the employee upon terminating the contract;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Temporary work visa: is issued to a foreign worker or employee of foreign company assigned to work in Algeria for a period of 90 days or less. (For more than 90 days, it’s necessary to apply for a work visa).
The following documents must be provided:
- Temporary work authorization (APT) issued by the Algerian relevant authority in charge of employment;
- Copy of employment contract;
- Employer letter stating the applicant job title or position and purpose of the visit and in which the employer pledges to cover all living expenses and to repatriate the employee upon terminating the contract;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Family visa: is issued to a foreigner who is member of an Algerian’s citizen family.
The following documents must be provided:
- A certified invitation letter (by the local municipality), in which the host pledges to lodge and cover all the expenses of her/his guest. The host must provide also a copy of her/his Algerian ID or passport and proof of residence;
- Spouses of Algerian citizens are requested to provide copy of the marriage certificate;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
7. Tourist visa: is issued to applicant who wants to visit Algeria for tourism.
The following documents must be provided:
- A confirmed hotel reservation or a certified invitation letter signed by an Algerian host who must provide a copy of his ID or passport and proof of residence;
- Employment letter of the applicant;
- A confirmed copy of a round trip flight ticket;
- Statement of financial resources or proof of income (bank statement);
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- A confirmed copy of a round trip flight ticket;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
8. Study visa: is issued to a foreign student who wants to study in Algeria.
The following documents must be provided:
- Acceptance letter from Algerian University;
- Copy of scholarship notification letter if any;
- Statement of financial resources or proof of income (bank statement);
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Medical visa: is issued to applicant who wishes to visit Algeria for a medical reason.
The following documents must be provided:
- Medical certificate and a letter from an Algerian healthcare institution;
- Proof of financial resources;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Cultural visa: is issued to applicant who wants to visit Algeria to participate to a cultural or scientific event.
The following documents must be provided:
- Invitation letter from the Algerian event’s organizer;
- Employment letter of the applicant;
- Statement of financial resources or proof of income (bank statement);
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Sport visa: is issued to applicant who wants to visit Algeria to participate to a sport event.
The following documents must be provided:
- Invitation letter from the Algerian event’s organizer;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
- Transit visa: is issued for a maximum of seven (07) days.
The following documents must be provided:
- Valid visa or passport to the country of destination;
- Statement of financial resources or proof of income (bank statement) during the period of stay in Algeria;
- Passport and a copy of the first page (the passport should be valid for at least six months);
- Copy of the ID;
- Two (02) photos;
- Two (02) copies of application form.
